Our sustainability

We are proud of our close connection to the sea. It is, after all, our closest neighbour – 365 days a year. That’s why we place extra care on protecting our oceans as part of our sustainability work, and why we collaborate with CleanSea, an organisation dedicated to cleaning the shores along the Bohuslän coast.

Experiencing Marstrands Havshotell should, according to our philosophy, place as little strain as possible on nature’s resources. Whether you come here for a conference, a meeting, a celebration or simply to spend time together, it should be meaningful – and memorable.

We work in many ways to achieve this, and together with our guests, we continuously strive to reduce the environmental impact of our operations.

GREEN KEY

An international eco-label for the hospitality industry

Green Key is a leading international certification for establishments in the hospitality industry, with more than 6,000 certified properties in over 70 countries worldwide.

The Green Key certification provides a structured framework for businesses looking to improve their sustainability efforts and reduce their environmental impact. Certified establishments meet ambitious criteria across 13 different sustainability areas.

No slippers

To reduce our environmental impact, we have chosen to remove single-use slippers from our rooms and spa. When plastic slippers are washed and used, the material wears down and releases microplastics that eventually end up in our oceans.

A clean sea - that we like

We are proud sponsors of CleanSea, an organisation working towards a cleaner West Coast. That’s something we truly believe in. We also support our very own stretch of shoreline on Klåverön, one of the nearby islands surrounding Marstrand.

Our spa

In our spa, we use an advanced system that recovers heat from circulating hot water. The recovered heat is then used to warm the hotel.

Single-use materials

We have minimised the use of single-use materials and plastics. You won’t find plastic straws here – or tea lights, for that matter.

Fresh air

The ventilation in our hotel rooms is activated when you check in and switches to standby mode when you check out. Our public areas are also equipped with occupancy-controlled ventilation.

Waste

We actively work to reduce food waste. As a guest, you can help by taking smaller portions and going back for more, rather than letting food go to waste.

The food on your plate

Coffee, fish, dairy products, beer and wine are all examples of how we choose products with a lower environmental impact. Whenever possible, we source locally. One example is Mattias Sörvik – a local fisherman from whom we source our seafood.

LED

All lighting in our hotel is LED and in many of our communal areas the lighting is controlled by occupancy sensors.

Water conservation

Taps, showers and toilets throughout the hotel are designed to use as little water as possible.

Transportation & recykling

We sort all waste for recycling and encourage our guests to do the same. To reduce transportation we order in bulk.

It is easy to get to Marstrands Havshotell by public transport. The bus stop is two minutes from our door stop.

Our in-house bakery

We have an in-house bakery which means we only bake as much as we need and avoid unneccessary transports. We are also very creative with left-overs and make short bread and croutons.
